Nieuw Spa in IJsland

Blue Lagoon to open new spa in Iceland
The Blue Lagoon and Hreyfing, health and fitness center, announced plans this week to open a joint fitness and spa, the first of its kind in Iceland, in a new building in Glaesibaer, Reykjavík, at the end of this year.

“Developing a new health resort from scratch is a very exciting challenge,” managing director of Hreyfing Ágústa Johnson said. “Bringing Hreyfing and the Blue Lagoon Spa together opens new opportunities, allowing us to offer a variety of facilities in a beautiful setting and for guests to relax and rejuvenate body and soul.”

Until now, the Blue Lagoon has only offered spa treatments, using algae from the water in the lagoon, at the lagoon itself. The Blue Lagoon is now expanding its operations, and the opening of the Reykjavík-based spa is part its future plans.

“We are planning to open Blue Lagoon spas in other cities,” said Anna G. Sverrisdóttir, managing director of the Blue Lagoon’s domestic operations and chairman of Hreyfing’s board. “Opening the first Blue Lagoon spa in Reykjavík is a very important step for us.”

Various new features and treatments that have not been offered in Iceland before will be available at the new health center, including float-tank relaxations. Fifty minutes of the treatment is considered equal to eight hours of sleep.

During all treatments Blue Lagoon skin care products will be used, whose healing effects on skin have been proven, considered especially helpful against psoriasis. Recent studies have shown that silica and algae in the Blue Lagoon diminish signs of aging.
